In Flanders Fields is an image of hope, inspired by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae’s poem of the same name about the horrors of World War I.
It depicts a sea of poppies gently rustling in a morning breeze, the sunrise bathing the flowers in life-giving warmth, with butterflies fluttering to and fro.
It represents everything the brave men of a past generation fought for. A future of hope, freedom and peace.
And is in stark contrast to the reality of their sacrifice – the mud, the blood, the big guns thud.
This print will forever whisper to all future generations the moving line in McCrae’s poem…
“We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.”
